    Was arrested but was told I could get a lawyer or read my rights
    I was arrested for theft in the third degree. I was not read my rights.I was not asked if I needed an attorney. I told them I didn't know what do and got no response or help.were my rights violated?

    No, you can be arrested, and it appears you "knew what you could do" They don't have to read you your rights unless they question you. And if they did question you and you confessed, then you can get that confession thrown out as evidence.

    TV is so funny they get people thinking you have to be read your rights every time you are arrested. That is not nearly true, you can be arrested, be in jail, go to trial and be found guiilty and never get your rights read.

    For example in GA where I was a police officer, I have arrested many people, only once I ever read anyone their rights, since I did not question them, the dect would read them their rights if they questioned them, but if I caught them in a stolen car, there is not much I have to ask them,

    So at best anything you confessed to, may get to be thrown out
