I'm scared of becoming obese or overweight later in life.suggestions?
I'm fourteen, five foot two and around 121lbs. I used to be around 110lbs about 2 months ago and id really like to get back to that, I don't know why but I just find any exess fat on me abit disgusting. Even when I sit down I can't not wear a top because I don't like the look of the rolls. I'm an extremelly picky eater, mainly only eating junk food, I will eat the odd vegetables like brocolli, potatoes and sweetcorn but I don't like the texture or taste of others. I also eat the odd apple and bunch of grapes. But with me I keep having to have the same meals over and over again because I don't eat anything else and I don't know what to do because I keep on going towards the crisps and chocolate which is why I'm scared of becoming obese with bad health problems later on in life. I would really like some recipes or websites to help me with this problem or ways I can lose the weight healthily, your suggestions would be very very helpful.

121 lbs is not overweight for your height. I'm a couple inches shorter than you and that's about mid-range healthy weight for me. Since you're taller, it's certainly healthy for you. What you need to do is get over your picky eating (I used to be a picky eater too). I really started to like new foods when I started cooking. I used to hate asparagus. Then I started cooking it myself (my aunt used to have everyone take a turn cooking dinner. We had to include vegetables in the meal). I realized that I don't hate it, I just hate it when it's overcooked. I thought I hated tomatoes too. I realized that I love them with just a touch of sea salt on them. Thought I hated cucumbers also. But cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches are one of my favorites now. Same with brussel sprouts. They look so weird. But people kept saying how good they are. And it's true, when cooked just right, they're amazing.

I just realized when I was going to post you links to some of the other threads members have started with yummy recipes, that you already posted a question about being an unhealthy picky eater looking for recipes. Did you look through those threads and try out any of the recipes? If you did and didn't like any of them, I'm willing to help you look for more new ones. But I want to know that I'm not just wasting my time first.

I just read them. I'm not believing you did. Because I couldn't find a single thing that was middle eastern. Seeing as a number of my friends are middle eastern, I have a pretty good idea of what middle eastern food is.

You're taste buds change over the years. While there may be some vegetables and fruits that you just simply never come to like, chances are there will be many that you do come to enjoy. But the thing is, you have to be willing to try them.

And if spicy food isn't for you, skip those recipes. A lot of those recipes were not spicy.

If you want to eat healthier, you have to be willing to make an effort to try healthy foods. You can start simple. One veggie at a time. However you want to. Name a veggie, any veggie you think you don't like and I'll bet someone on here can find a yummy recipe.

The way you put that seemed extremelly rude. And yes I believe I did look through all of them and the other threads that are on this site and subject - not just the ones you posted.

I've been to a specialist and she recommended I got a whole range of fruit and vegetables and try each one of them - I only actually liked the dragon fruit and grapes out of about 30 foods.

And what was rude about it? You wanted help. I offered suggestions. You're repeating a question you already posted (against the rules, by the way). The reasons you listed for why the other recipes didn't work didn't make any sense. I'm totally willing to help you find recipes. But not if I don't think you're actually reading them. And when I give you a link to recipes from the garden and you say you don't like them because they're middle eastern, I think you can see why I would suspect that you hadn't actually read or tried any of them.

So you've tried 30 new foods. What have you not tried yet? And let's talk about those 30 foods. What were some of them? Are you sure they were ripe? Did you try them prepared different ways?

    Hi rosanna,
You are right that you should try to wean yourself from the junk food and learn to like healthier foods. I would not recommend fancy recipes at this stage, but just to try different fruits and vegetables and find some that you like. If you can afford to eat out, try some different kinds of foods that contain lots of vegetables or fruits. Maybe you'll discover that you like Chinese (get things with only a little meat, mostly veggies) or Mexican, etc. Obviously, avoid things that are high fat like sour cream and avacado.

Also, minimize that amount of grains you eat, things like corn, rice, and wheat. I'm not saying don't eat any, but don't make grains the main part of your diet as most people do. Also don't drink soft drinks. Switch to ordinary tap water, or eat whole fruit when you are thirsty.

Junk foods are designed to be practically addictive, so it's not surprising that it's hard to not eat them. But they are actually not good for your health. You have the right idea!

I am talking calories. Almost everything is healthy in moderation. I'm just saying don't switch from big macs to avocado sandwiches and expect to lose weight. Look for things with lots of fiber, like squash, yams, beans, or whole fruit.

Nuts and eggs are fine too.

Oh. OK. Good. I love avocados! I was worried I was going to need to cut back on them.

I'm thirteen... I feel about the same. Im five feet tall and I weigh 100 pounds. (exactly) I'm not fat now, but I'm always tempted to eat junk food. I'm scared because I gained like 20 pounds in the last couple months and I'm freaking out... I'm definitely not fat, but I'm afraid if I keep giving into my junk food temps then I'll become chunky or fat... No offense to anyone. Sorry I spent this whole time telling you about my problems... I just though it would make you feel better to know that I have the same problem... (I would go by eating the few healthy things you do like, than try some other fruits or vegies, like pomogranates, they are amazing! Ha... Im not saying to be a vegitarian just try more fruits, vegies, or meats... Then you can reward yourself every once in a while, I meen your 14 so it's not like it's that bad to eat some junk foods... right?)
