    Hi Billetdad...

PVC expands/contracts at a rate of about 3/8" per 10 feet of pipe so it certainly could be a contributing factor to the noise... ;)

What material is the shower base and walls made of? If PVC or acrylic then you can expect they will also expand/contract and also contribute to noise.

My guess is that the shower pan was not set in a bedding substrate such as structolite gypsum or mortar. If a shower drain and a shower pan have been installed properly then noise should not be an issue for you.

Could also be the hot water pipe expanding and then contracting at the end of the shower... this is more likely than the PVC pipe.

Let us know if you want to discuss this more...
