    Harcraft tub-diverter stem
The Harcraft tub diverter stem appears to be captive due to a small metal pin that allows the stem to only rotate 90 degrees. The pin protudes into a slot on the bottom of the valve body, much the same way the clip on a Moen faucet protudes into the slot. There is a packing nut but it serves no packing function, it appears to be there just to stop the stem coming out but even with the nut out, stem stays put. Has anyone out there ever pulled this stem?

I just ran into the same thing. I sprayed the pin with WD-40 and after messing with it for a while the pin pulled straight out with a pair of needle nose. Then you can pull the diverter stem out.

I am replacing seats and stems in tub/shower. The old one is Sterling--the new faucet set it a PricePfister. The PF diverter stem doesn't fit into the seat (the hot and cold stems do). Can I go to another size diverter with PF?
