Friends put down a floor and had to unwire my baseboard heaters. They couldn't remember how to rewire the heater with the thermostat. The heater with the thermostat works, but the other heater stays on.

Here is how the heater with the thermost is wired:
1) red from thermostat to black coming out of heater
2) black from thermostat to another black from the heater and black coming up out of the floor
3) white from floor to red from heater
There is also another wire which I am assuming is the ground as it is connected to the back of the case.

I am hoping is is just one wire that is wrong.

You have to explain a bit better.

You said there are two heaters; why not call them heater #1, heater #2.Which of these heaters has a thermostat.

Next there are cables with wire colors.

And a thermostat with wire colors. Does the thermostat have 2 or 4 wires?

"the heater with the thermostat" means what? The thermostat is located in one heater and not the other?

We don't care about bare wires. They are ground.

Heater #1 has the thermostat. Heater #2 does not have the thermostat and remains on even when Heater #1 is off.

The thermostat on Heater #1 has two wires: one red and one black. Heater #1 has one red and two black wires (also a black that is grounded) When I say thermostat I mean a control that turns the heaters on/off and increases the temps from low to high. It is just a knob with no markings on it. These are very old baseboard heaters

Coming out of the floor for Heater #1 (I am assuming these are the "hot wires" and in a "cable") are one white wire and one black wires.

Heater #2 has 2 black (one is ground) and one red. Coming out of the floorin a cable is one white and one black wire.
