    Hampton Bay ceiling fan
Installing a new fan with remote, no chain pulls. The fan will not turn off nor reverse direction. It does change speed though. There is 120V at the black wire all the time on the male end of the plastic plug in the lower canopy. Unplugging the male/female ends removes power to the motor. Pressing the Off pushbutton on the remote does not change the 120V at the male end connection. Should there always be 120V at this point in the electrical scheme? If so, does that point to the black box in the lower canopy as being faulty? Pressing lo, med, or high shows a voltage dip from 120 to 80 and back to 120V on the male end black wire. Pressing off does nothing. Reverse does nothing. Transmitter settings are set the same, and even tried changing them but doesn't make a difference. Does the receiver always output 120V at the black wire?

Return the fan. Either the remote or receiver is defective.
