    Statute of limitations
In Canada what is the timeframe or statute of limitations to bring criminal charges against someone. I was hurt by my ex about one and one half years ago. It has taken some time for me to get the courage to bring this issue to justice but I am afraid I may have left it too long. I have pictures of what he did to me so I have proof. Can someone please let me know. Thank you.

Rockland, the charge depends on what degree of assault it was and that has to be determined by the police and in that case the statute of limitations may vary but in most cases it is six years. I suggest you call the police, talk to them, lay a charge and go from there. Keep your courage and just get it done. These issues must be reported so others may learn and understand it is not acceptable.

Good luck, and please let us know.

    Hello r:

You may have waited too long. I believe the statute of limitations hasn't expired, but by NOT reporting a crime when it happens causes one to think it may NOT have happened.

But, call the cops and make a report. They'll tell you.
