    Central ac replacement
I am looking for independent advice on central ac replacement. I have gotten my first estimate and am not sure what the advatages of the more expensive one is for my situation. The house is in Texas,it is 1400 sq.ft,two story, the duct system is brand new. I am interested in efficiency and durability. The system we have now is ancient and the electric cost is extreem. I understand that the more expensive model has a higher SEER rating and that means it is more energy efficient but I am not sure the increased initial cost is worth it. These are the two estimates I have gotten.
Amana 3 ton 18 seer heat pump Contract Amount$4600
Amana 2.5 ton 15 seer heat pump Contract Amount$3800
I know a lot goes into figuring out what size unit is needed but I just want to make sure that I am not getting something that is too large for my home. I have read that if you get a unit that is too large it ends up costing more in electricity. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its time to get a third estimate and compare. Don't be afraid of asking question with the contractor of how they came up with the 3 or 2 1/2 ton load. If they can't answer quick and show you on paper how they derived with this figure its time to move on.

Hi, I received a brochure from my power company telling me I should consider "ductless" ac versus the traditional ac cooling unit. What are the differences between the two? The only thing the brochure said was that ductless was more friendly to the environment. Thanks
