    Dishwasher and Pipes
    Hi,

Two questions. 1. Just recently, when the dishwasher drains (pumps water out), my 1 1/2 kitchen sink backs up. The sinks themselves drain perfectly, even with a full load. But it only backs up when the dishwasher drains. Any idea on what's going on? It just all of a sudden started to do this.

    2. When I turn on my kitchen taps (hot or cold) there is a loud high pitched squeal. Also over the last few months it seems to loose a little pressure. I have no idea what the squeal is. I thought it was air but I opened all the taps in the house and tried to get it out but it still squeals. Any fixes?

Thank you very much for your time. I appreciate any suggestions you can give me! :D:D

#1. sounds like you have a partial blockage in sink drian. Dishwasher puts out a lot of water so you only see the backup when dishwasher is running, soon the sinks will start to drian slowly. Try this for me,, fill one side of the sink completely full, then let it drain and tell me if water comes up in the other side of sink. IF it does, even just a little bit, you should snake the sink drain.

#2, sounds like a cartridge problem or shut off under sink problem.

0h, for problem #1. Please let us know if you have a garbage disposal. Lee.

Don'r snake the drain through the trap. Instead remove the "J" bend from the trap and send your snake up into the wall, (see image). You'll run into a bend about 8 inches in but once around that you'll only have about 6 more feet of snake to run out.
As for the noise in your faucet I would check the diverter. Diverters con look like the ones shown in the inages and are always located under the spout. Turn the water off to the valve. Remove the handle and the chrome retaining plate. Pull the spout up and remove the diverter. Place a pan over the open valve boby and turn the water back on to flush out any trash that may be dowm there. Reassemble and test. Better now? Good luck, Tom
