    Fuel pump polarity
I replaced my the lift pump on my Cummins Diesel Ram 2001 with a FASS DDRP (dodge direct replacement pump). The lift pumps' purpose is to transfer fuel from the fuel tank to the main injection pump.

I began having hot start issues after the install, the truck would start when cold and run OK till turned off, if you tried to restart when hot, it would not start. This was supposed to be caused from overpressure of the injection pump.

The suggested fix from one of the diesel forums was to run the pump from the Run Only circuit in the cabin fuse box, so pump will not run till engine runs, there is enough fuel in pump to start truck, so no more hot start problems.

I ran red lead from pump to fuse 10 with an add a circuit fuse connector green to ground and it wouldn't start.

After goofing with it for a while, I put it back to original since it would not start. Still will not pump fuel. I pulled the line from the filter and I have suction on outlet side when pump is running.

So, after that long winded explaination, what it boils down to is that the lift pump is now running backwards, I can hear it bubbling in the tank when I listen to the fuel neck.

Somehow I have reversed the polarity of the lift pump. The wires are back to original, the port on the pump I think to be the outlet is the outlet, I have rechecked both of these things.

How do I put the polarity back the way it should be? Is it as simple as disconnecting the pump and touching the red lead to the battery?

    Thanks... gary
