    Electrical faults
    Is it an electrical fault that is causing the smell coming from the light when I switch it on?

    Discolored contacts produce heat and heat causes the lamp housing to release fumes, so the answer is likely yes.

    Did you exceed the maximum wattage for the lamp.

    It should be inspected and sometimes you can just replace the socket.
