I need to relpace my ABS toilet flange. My local hardwear store only carries PVS toilet flanges. My question is, can I put a PVC toilet flange on a ABS pipe coming out of my floor and attach them using ABS glue I have in my shed?

Hi Ztracing...

It will be OK only if that harware store has a PVC to ABS transition cement. Here, this special cement will allow you to cement a PVC flange onto an ABS pipe. Read the instructions on the can to determine if you need a PRIMER as well... ;)

Otherwise, look for the closest plumbing supply house in your area... they should have the ABS flange you need, or at least they should carry the appropriate cement for cementing PVC to ABS.

OATEY and HERCULES both have transition cements that will work here... see images.

Be aware that some plumbing codes prohibit chemically joining (solvent weld) dissimilar materials (ABS/PVC). My local code prohibits comingling PVC and ABS.
Verify with local building officials that the use of Transition Cement is permitted. But since this won't be inspected I feel this won't be a problem You may prime the PVC fitting with purple primer or simply sand off the gloss. However, you do not prime the ABS fittings or pipe Good luck, Tom
