Movie about a social experiment, possibly 80's/90's
I'm looking for a movie I saw a long time ago, when I was a kid. (okay, not that long ago, but still)
It starts with this guy living the "perfect" suburban life. He has a good wife, good job, good friends. Perhaps it's "too perfect". Then, when he is walking down the street, a lamp SMASHED to the ground in front of him. He looks up, and the only thing up is the sun. Then, (I think, not sure) there is a tiny black dot on the sun. He then starts investigating. Every day, certain events happen, like the cars driving by, that tells him that there isn't one minute where he is truly alone. He tells his wife, and she says he's being crazy. He grabs her, she screams "HELP!". He says "ooh, so there is someone there to help you?". Shortly after, a friend shows up with a case of beer, and he stops. Later, we learn that he has a fear of the open ocean, and it's because his father drowned at sea. Then, he sees his 'father' in a crowd. He calls out to him, but someone else drags him onto/off of the bus (don't remember which way he was going). He continues investigating this, and starts putting the pieces together. He makes a plan, and one night, he sneaks out. The people behind the camera are deceived, for about 10 minutes, but it is all he needed. He runs, and they make the clouds move and the moon becomes full. The townsfolk start searching using lights/lamps, but can't find him. Then, the people behind it raise the sun for more light. They find him at sail in the ocean. They try to catch him, but he gets away, finally, the boat crashes into the sky, or what really was a wall painted to look like the sky, with a cleverly discuised door in it. The people behind the machine tell him what's up, and tell him he can leave if he wants, but they don't want him to leave. He does decide to leave, and walks through the door in the "sky". Well, that's about all I remember. However, it is MUCH MORE than most of the movie questions out there, so maybe someone can solve this one. Thank you! :) |
