    Noise from Kenmore washer.
I have a Kenmore washer that I just replaced the dogs on the agitator basket. This fixed the slippage but I still have a gear noise coming from the macjine but only when it is agitating. It did not make this noise before the dogs wore out (washed a heavy quilt). It makes this noise with the agitator basket on or off. Age of machine is about 18 yrs old.
Can the gear box be lubed? Serviced?
If it it is just a replacement item will it hurt to run it until it quits or can that do more damage?
    Thanks

Thanks for your answer but I was really looking for was an opinion on the slight gear noise during the agitation cycle. Will it damage other parts if I continue to use the machine?

In all probability yes. See Here scroll down a bit. The lock-mech probably got damaged when you washed the Quilt.

Can the gear box (GB) be lubed? Maybe, but all the ones I've seen were sealed, because of the inherent nature, of what the machine does. (water is involved) Its hard to tell from this pix if there are bolts around the circumference, so you could take it apart, fill it half way with gear oil Now the question? what weight? and bolt it back together.
Not sure what that clamp screw is holding, but I doubt it's the two halves of that

Serviced? You'd have to look for a plug. If not then drill, tap, add oil, install new plug.
The only other service would be replacement, that involves finding a suitable substitute, because I doubt you'll find an exact match after 18years. Thus the Sears parts direct link Find the part # of the washer, (e.g. xxx.xxxxx) plug it in to their site search, an see what they have.

Since you seem pretty adept at this, your best option is get the new GB and replace the old one.

    Otherwise...
That washer gave you excellent service after 18years, but it's hurt now. I wouldn't run it hard No more quilts, but run it till it quits, and plan on a new one
