    H1B visa, contract in jeopardy
    H1b Visa
I am a doctor and got residency which was suppose to start on July 1st, 2009.
My situations is, I applied for H1 (sponsored by hospital) and my visa interview was on June 30th, 2009 by US embassy in Pakistan.Counselor approved my visa and sent it for security clearance. My passport is still in administrative process (as of Aug 4th, 09) and now my residency says that they can't wait for me anymore. My questions are:

1-Is there any way to expedite security clearance/administrative process?
2-If my contract is canceled, then what will become of my H1 visa?
3-If program says that they will accommodate me next year , can I request them not to withdraw the petition and I can work on this H1 visa. Can they do that?
4-I previously had B1/B2 stamped on passport, will the embassy cancel it?

    . Help me.

    1. generally not, but you can have the hospital fax/email a letter to the NIV chief. The security clearance is nothing they can expedite.

    2. your H-1 visa is employer specific, so if they cancel the contract, the H-1B is of limited use.

    3. If they have work for you as an H-1B, you can work for them as an H-1B. Don't really understand your question.

    4. no, they will not cancel it.

I trust this is responsive to your inquiry.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive reply. One more question.

Q: Can I travel on B1/B2 to States and then change my status to H1? Will that be quicker than application through US embassy in Pakistan? (Asking this for next year, this year is lost)

You can change status from B to H-1B, but you cannot enter on a B if you have the intention to change status. The B visa is a visitor visa and coming in with the intention to work is deemed to be "circumventing" visa procedures.
