Leaking bathtub faucet
I have a moen bathtub/shower single handle faucet with diverter. I replaced the cartridge with one that moen supplied. Everything went very smoothly. The tool they supplied worked like a champ and in a minute the old cartridge was out and in another minute the new one was in. The only problem is the faucet still leaks at the same rate it did with the old cartridge. I am back to square one with no more answers. By, the way the plastic housings comes out much better than the brass one seems to.

Please tell us exactly where it leaks from. Out the spout? The stem? Where? Cheers, Tom

Leaking bathtub faucet
Tom: I didn't have any luck answering your question as to where the leak is so I will reask the question properly.
The leak is coming out of the spout. The diverter is under the handle not on the spout. Recap, I replaced the cartridge in back of the handle and still the leak was there. The cartridge as supplied by moen so I assume it was correct. Sorry for the messup in answering your question. I will get the hang of this one of these days. Regards Bob

Hey Bob,
Is this a one handled valve with the diverter or is it a three knob valve with the dirverter in the center? If a one handled did you pull the diverter,(see image) and check the washer? Let me know, Tom

Tom:
It is a single handle with the diverter in the center under the handle.

Added a question: Does the water need to be shut off in the house if the faucet is kept off when I take out the diverter?

Hi Bob,
Open the link below will show you all the parts for your faucet and I will suggest to shut the water off before you remove the diverter or you can close the stop check valves, it easy to shut of the water, Thanks.

Thanks John. I have a moen Dialcet which looks like a no frills version of the diagram.
All the parts I have are shown on the diagram and in the same location. It is very helpful. I wasn't sure about the water because it seemed the diverter was not loaded up when the faucet was off. I agree if in doubt shut off the water. Thanks again Bob

Hey Bob,
The diverter is not active until the valve's turned on but it's still a good idea to shut the water off before opening up the valve. Good luck, To,m

Thanks Tom. I'll post how it works out. Bob
Tom & John: Thanks so much for your valuable help with my problem. I went to a real plumbing supply store looking for a diverter. The fellow there actually did plumbing before running the store. He said that if it were him, given the hard well water he would take the cartridge out and steel wool the inside to remove the residual. I did it and low and behold the leak stopped. Thanks again for the help. Maybe you can add this to your store of knowledge. Bob

My bathtub faucet is leaking. I'm not sure if it's the cold, or hot side.
The faucet is a turn from left to right to get hot or cold water. It has a clear diamond shaped knob that is see through. I turn it to the left, and the water comes on. Turn it all the way to the left until it stops...
