    Replacing basement windows
    Hey all.
I want to replace the basement windows. My house is 5 years old and the basement windows are only single pane. I have changed windows before but not with metal surrounds.
How is the metal window held in the concrete wall? What kind of fasteners do you use to install the windows?

    Thanks

Some windows are set down into notches in the blocks before the plate is put on the foundation. If so, you might have to remove the glass, and cut the frames at the top and bottom with a Sawsall or cut off wheel. If you want to conserve heat, adding storm windows could make more sense.

It is a solid wall. No blocks. I was thinking maybe I could leave the old ones in and just put the new double pane one next to it. Don't know if that would be a good idea or not.

Don't see why not. Tapcons are very poplar for fastening to concrete now. Just drill I think a 5/32'' hole and run the hardened steel screw in. Where great mechanical strength isn't needed, I use construction adhesive. Not Liquid Nails. It is meant for interior use. Look for the stuff rated for exterior use. I have used stuff from both Ace Hardware and Lowe's.
