Cant install defender pro 2009
Hello :)
I'm OK with computers, not too bad at basic stuff, and I got really good at 'cleaning up' a computer due to my experience with my husbands... um... adult browsing, and having to fix the computer due to malware, spyware and virus'
So my friend was having issues with her computer so I'm sitting here trying to fix it while she is at work.
I ran malwarebytes and ccleaner, and did a disk cleanup (which I think is basically the same as ccleaner, but I did anyway just in case it had something different in it)
And I removed all the unnessisary programs she says she doesn't use, and I did a 'onecare' update, that I guess is like windows update, cept its for vista.
I have no experience with vista, but I'm doing all right I suppose, mostly just a frustrating layout and setup hehe.
Now on to my problem.
She asked me to download her new 'anti' program (has antivirus anti spy firewall antiphishing ect) called Defender Pro 2009. She couldn't get it to install, so I told her I would try to get it.
So, here is what its telling me when I try to install...
This Defender Pro product is not compatible with your operating system. It can only be installed on windows XP SP2 or higher, Vista or Home Server 32b. The installation is aborted.
What is confusing me, is this IS vista. It's the vista home edition. And it has all the updates.
So I'm not really sure why the program seems to think its NOT vista.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Could not find anything that will help but of all info that I could find out, I could not find 1 post that said anything positive about this product. Just people asking how to remove it
Is it possible you have a 64bit version that you are trying to install and it will not install as a 32bit system?
If there is another antivirus app on the computer, it may not allow the install of another antivirus app.

That's possible. I'm going to download and run the free version of avg and get rid of any viruses my friend might already have that might be affecting it. That's all I found when I googled 'defender pro and vista' and found a 'yahoo answers' post about it.

Thanks hon :)
On the other hand, even if I can't get this program to work, her computer is running MUCH better now that I cleaned it all up. Once I'm done with all the scans and clean up (malwarebytes is still scanning, 59 infections so far!) I'm going to do a defrag and then reset the whole damn thing and maybe her computer won't take 3 hours to do a simple Google search ;)

OOH and make sure she knows to run all 4 periodically (scandisk-ccleaner-malwarebytes-defrag)
Out of curiosity, how often should they be run? I do them once a month. On the 5 of each month so that its easy to remmber :P but is that too much? Not enough?

Once a month is good and as you already have a day of the month, you should be good with keeping things in order.
System restore points are made every 24 hours by default, but should try to keep a date in mind when all things are working as should be in case need to go back to that particular restore point.
As they are made daily, just keep in back of mind which date would be good to go back to if you may ever need to use one
