    Open Files on Desktop
Every time I open a file on my Apple, a new Desktop Icon is created. This is extremely annoying and the desktop gets so cluttered I can't find anything. How do I stop this behavior?

Which model Apple? Which version of the OS? How full is your hard drive? When did you last do maintenance like repairing permissions and verifying the disk?
