I am running a home desktop with a DSL modem connected to a Belkin Wireless-G Router to give my Nintendo Wii and Laptop access to WiFi.
For the last two days, the modem has had the DSL light shut off on us. It will turn red, and start the process of flashing back to green (flashing before solid, of course).
This, obviously, causes the internet to shut off. As a result, we have had severe internet connectivity issues, as you would imagine, and it has taken me

Ever since this started, the laptop and the desktop have had problems running the internet at the same time, when it will even run.

Our ISP is: SBC Internet Services
Our OS is: Windows XP running IE7

Can anyone give me any information as to what is causing this problem?
Or, more preferably, possibly how to fix it? Or, if needed, any more information you could use to help me?

You obviosly have a physical connection issue. This could be in house, the telephine cord, the modem or the telco's problem.

Without anything to swap, get a new telephone cord and attaché the DSL modem the test jack in the NID on the side of the house.

If it continues, call the help line. They will make you go through some hoops too, but that should determine if it's your problem or theirs.

Initial guess: the DSL modem cable.

Reminder: No filters used between the DSL modem and the wall. Spliters in the NID are better. More than 5 splitters in the system creates issues.

I feel really stupid now... but what's NID?
Well, I already have a backup phone line ready... (well, a few actually).
Thanks for your help... I'll try swapping it out, and if it keeps happening, I'll ask for more help... if not immediately to calling help line...

No filters used on phonejack to desktop. A spliter used there (I think) to create DSL and phone line on the same wall...
Two filters used on the other phones in the house.

I guessed it was a hardwire issue, but it only occurs when the desktop starts up the internet? Could that change anything?

The NID is the "Network Interface Device" and is just a bax on your house where the telephone companies and your reponsibilities ends. It also contains a "test jack" which when a phone jack is inserted, the house phones are disconnected. You may have to remove a small telco jumper; New modules don't have the jumpers, just a jack.

Your statement that it only occurs with the desktop could mean a couple of things:
1. wiring to desktop; ping router with high packet size like 8192 to test.
2. PC is infected and hardware on the telco's side is disconnecting you. Use the free program "Active ports" to determine the external IP addresses your coonnected too or use a free network packet sniffer.

Also try re-installing the router from scratch as you just purchased it

Remove everything and uninstall any software that may have bee installed when first installed and just start and follow instructions as when you first installed.

Similar situation happened to myself recently and took some time to get it going again, then as mentioned, I just started from scratch as new installation and it worked itself out.

Don't know what caused it but did work for my situation.

I took out the router, AND changed the phone line, and then it finally went away.
