Diy install ground wire for 3 prong outlet
I just moved to the dominican republic... my 2nd floor apartment has your typical 3 prong outlets... but no ground!(?).

I hear this is normal down here. The apartment is make of cement blocks. Usually they build the walls then break them to install the wiring before cementing it flat.

Anyway... I want to keep my audio/visual equipment safe from surges (which are everyday occurrences here)... my surge protector won't work because there is no ground.

I was thinking to connect a wire to all the outlets I will be using for the tv/dvd etc. run them out a window and connect them to a spike in the ground (?) I say this because I was shown a similar set up in a friend's house... I was told the electric company will do it.

    Suggestions?

All I can/will say are two things.

    - A "spike" in the ground will do NOTHING as far as providing a ground to a circuit.

    - This is a rental. I would not touch anything electrical there. Even in the DR.
