Honda riding lawn mower
Hi
I own a Honda 3810T riding lawn mower, when the engine is running and you go to use your PTO or put into drive, the engine stalls. Is this being caused by possibly a short in the wiring system? We are not sure of the year as we bought it second hand, we have cleaned the filters, carb and checked the pump and put in new spark plug and still having this problem.

Hi,
My guess is that the seat switch is not functioning, and thereby the machine thinks the seat is vacant and the safety mode "kicks in." That is an over-engineered mower, though a well built one. Check the switch first. A question, did you test the operation before puchase or did this surface after use subsequent to puchase?

Hi, thank you for your answer. We have checked the seat switch, we purchased this lawn mower 3 yrs ago and have had it going this year and when we went to use it the other day it would start and run and as soon as you put it under load then it would stall, try to restart and it would run but the same thing would happen. Then after a few times it refused to start at all. We cleaned filters, change plug, clean carb, now its running but still not under load.

Hi,
Not a good note! Okay,lift the hood and look on th right side in front of the dash. That should be where the electrical components are. I would suggest very carefully unplugging, examining for obvious damage and re-plugging the connections. You will probably not see obvious damage. Sometimes a bit of galvanic corrosion can make a connection tenuous. Next, look for the little rubber covered block about 1/2" square by 1 1/2" longOpen it up. There is the funniest looking fuse you ever saw in there. It is an unusual piece of metal fastened at each end by Phillips screws. If burned in two replace; the grooves in the fuse for the screws turn in different directions. You only have to loosen the screws, place the length-wise slot beneath a screw with the fuse 45 degrees from lined up and rotate the other end so its slot slides beneath its screw. It would be obvious what I am describing sight seen.
Try those thing first. I have seen the unplug trick work more than once. There is a "brain box" around there. It is expensive and a last resort.

Have Honda 3011 riding mower, does anyone have manual that they can e-mail me copy .
Honda has been setting, how to move it, seems locked up.

Hi again
I have tried your first suggestion an cleaned this area up. I also removed the rubber covered block and did that suggestion. Still no luck. I even disconnected the seat switch and tried to run the mower and put the load down and put into gear and it still wants to stall on me. I tried this to see if this would eliminate that as a possibility. I see that the "brain box" is expensive and the last resort so with what I have so far explained is there anything else I can try before moving in that direction.

Hi,
Simply unplugging the seat switch has not been allowed to work fore a great number of years, over 20. It mu be jumpered.Peace,

Hi,
That was in that post before here. I will repost the URL, pick the "Riding Equipment" and "Lawn Tractor" choice and have your serial number, if available. If memory serves, it is in a strange place like turn sideways near the electrical stuff, but I could be remembering incorrectly.
Honda Power Equipment - Operator's and Owner's Manuals
There are two versions and I did not look closely to see the differences. Both have wiring diagrams listed separately.
Jumpering the seat switch means to unplug the connector and putting a wire connecting both sides of the connector to make look like it is a closed switch.
Good hunting and get back when you have the diagram and I will attempt to walk you through the troubleshooting; I have both diagrams locally or actually I will attach.

Hi, I found the problem... it was the electricial... Located a little box that is black with a blue end and has 4 plugs in... has the number G4MW-H16... something like that. It now works great... Thank you for all your help.

Hi,
Thanks so much for all your help. I have located the problem and it turns out to be a part that looks like a small block with a blue bottom that 4 wires would attach too. It looks like G4MW-H16 12v 2637D9 stamped on the top. The mower is now running perfectly and thanks for the link to get the manual, I missed it when it was included with Nicks answer.
