Adopted elderly dog cries even if I am home
Hi, My dog was a stray and used to live near where I did for many years. We were great friends even then and I'd sort of watch out for him. Three years ago, he was being taken away by the pound and I was told by the neighbours that I could not bring him back as they had a problem with it (I live in india where stray dogs are a part of many of our lives). So my then fiancé and now husband took him and another dog who was part of the group in. Getting them used to the house was quite difficult and within six months, one of the dogs died following a relapse of an earlier illness. I have been married for 2.5 years now and my dog is a lot closer to my husband who also works out of home and spends a lot of time with him. But the problem is he cries when we go out and worse, he cries if my husband is out and I am home! I take him for his walk and give him his morning meal and also brush him. He's about 10 years or a little more, we don't know and has a ear problem which acts up sometimes. But it's the crying that we are unable to fix. Any suggestions are welcome, solutions even more.

Does he have any favourite toys?

Maybe you could try to proccupy him with that.
Do you have kongs in India? They are a rubber toy with a hole in them to stuff food inside. The dogs love spending time getting the food out and it gets their mind off things...
An alternative is a plastic soda/soft drink bottle with a little dry food inside...

Thank you for letting this dog into your life and home... he is old and probably pretty set in his wild ways.
