    Child Support Lien
My husband owes about $7,000 in back child support. He just got a letter informing him that he now has a child suppot lien on his name. We don't know what that means. We are trying everything we can. Work is very slim here. What can he do?

That basically entitles the lienholder to go after his assets - bank accounts, tax returns, etc.

He should contact his local child support agency to work out a payment plan. Remember that paying less is better then not paying at all. My father got behind on his child support through out my child hood and got so over whelmed by it all that he just stopped paying it for a few years. I am 23 years old now and he is still paying back child support.

Marital assets, child support lien? [ 2 Answers ]

In the state of Indiana; if a man marries a woman, who prior to their marriage owned a home, and the now husband fell way behind on his child support (children of a prior marriage), could the courts put a lien on her home? I assume the home is in her name only. Kind of tricky wording.
