    Distribute the 2 to get [2x+2+6]=10
    Add the 2 and 6 to get 2x+8 = 10
    Subtract the 8 to get 2x = 2
    Divide by 2 to get x = 1

    Ok so the [ ] are absolute values,
    The first solution shows the positive value. The other one would be to write
    -2(x+1)-6 = 10 The inside is worth the opposite values, 2 becomes -2 and 6 is -6
    -2x - 2 -6 = 10 Distribute the -2
    -2x -8 = 10 Add the -2 and -6
    -2x = 18 Add the 8
    x = -2 Divide by -2

    Lol, It think you missed the last line josedelaluz..

    Ok, here's what you get;

    -2x=18

    then

    x=-9

    Btw josedelaluz, where did you get that 'x = -2'?

    What you can do is;

    |2(x+1)+6| = 10

    That's the same as 2(x+1)+6 = |10|

    Then, you'll have two equations;

    2(x+1)+6 = +10 and 2(x+1)+6 = -10

    Now, you can get the answer more easily
