Ok so the [ ] are absolute values,
The first solution shows the positive value. The other one would be to write
-2(x+1)-6 = 10 The inside is worth the opposite values, 2 becomes -2 and 6 is -6
-2x - 2 -6 = 10 Distribute the -2
-2x -8 = 10 Add the -2 and -6
-2x = 18 Add the 8
x = -2 Divide by -2
