    Hot wire in main panel
    I have a rental home that I am remodeling I had all the wiring replaced by an electrician. I noticed a 20amp breaker was tripped so I replaced it with a new one and it tripped also so I took the black 12gauge wire off the breaker and its white partner, just out of curiosity I tested the wire and found that it reads 120 even though it is removed from all power in the panel. Does anyone have any idea why the wire would be hot and what I should do next?

    Its double fed, turn off breakers off one by one to locate. Then leave both breakers off and see what went out. You may find a living room circuit connecting with a bed or bath circuit.
    Fixing is tough to put in words due to the fact it is a GFI or Arc Fault breaker. Cap one black for now, as if it is on 2 breakers, wires could see 40 amps before tripping.

    You're lucky you didn't get zapped when you removed the wire. Although this situation is rare, it happens. Invest in a voltage tester and use it when working on any circuit.

    Return ASAP to correct this issue.

    He clearly made a serious mistake in splicing while he rewired the home.
