Removal of nut on crankshaft end
I have a Craftsman 32cc Blower/Vacuum Sears model # 358.797180 that needs to have a new starter pull rope installed. I have everything removed from the engine down to the housing that surrounds the rope pull mechanism. In order to remove the housing around the rope, I first must remove a nut that is located on the end of the crankshaft. I don't know if this nut is pressed on or screwed on. If this nut is screwed on, is it a right or left hand thread. And mainly how do I keep the crankshaft from turning while attempting to unscrew the nut.

Pull the starter rope slowly and watch the direction the motor turns, likely clockwise so this would indicate a reversed thread on the nut. Turn the nut clockwise to loosen

    Hi,
Remove the spark plug and take a piece of rope, double it and insert the loop into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. I believe it is regular threads, so counter-clockwise to remove. The fan is on a "D" shaft and there is probably a hoolow sleeve beneath it; do not loose track of it as it is critical tha it is there.
    Good luck.
    Peace,
    Clarke
