Potty Training A One Year Old Doxie
I just adopted on one year old doxie, who is having a MAJOR pottying in the house problem. She does pretty good during the day, but then at bedtime I take her out to go potty and she absolutely REFUSES to go. It doesn't matter how long I sit outside with her, she just looks at me like I'm stupid... my roommate and I are on different schedules because of our respective jobs, so she's not going more than 4 hours overnight without the oppurtunity to go. Nonetheless, she still wakes up in the middle of the night and pees in the floor. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. I've tried waking up halfway through the night to give her another chance to go and it doesn't make any difference. She also does this in the morning when I wake up. I stand there and try to coax her to go out in the morning and she'll just sit and look at me and the last 4 or 5 times I've tried to pick her up to TAKE her to the door to go out she starts peeing all over the floor or the bed or where ever she happens to be sitting. I've washed my entire bedset at least 5 days this week. I tried crating her up before I go to bed, but she spent her entire first year stuck in a crate and it freaks her out now. She just sits there and howls, which I would be okay with, because I know that's what it takes to crate train a dog, but my neighbors are way too close and they've already called in a noise complaint once. I've potty trained many dogs before, but none of the tricks are working this time. I'm at my wits end... does ANYONE have ANY helpful advice? Please?

Are you walking her where other dogs pee? That always works. If not, I would pee in the yard first( I live in the middle of nowhere), and my lab puppy would have to top it off, making his mark. You may be able to go in a cup or something, and pour a little out where you want her to go. Sounds like you're desperate... After a while, she'll get the idea. Good luck.

I have another doxie that goes in the yard, but she doesn't really seem interested in covering up her smell... maybe she kind of recognizes her smell and realizes that they share the territory. That's really not a bad idea. Thank you so much! I'll give it a try!

I just got a cute little 1 year old shih tzu about 2 weeks ago and I am having great difficulty potty training him. The previous owners didn't have him potty trained. I bought him a crate and take him out to "go potty" regularly. Then I keep him on a leash in the kitchen or in the bathroom so he...
