Potty training for a 2 year old boy
My 2 year old grandson has used a toilet, but shows no initiative about wanting to use it more often. Any help?

My son is the same, has used the potty once and we gave him lots of praise for it and although he knows what a pee-pee is he won't use the toilet or potty again.
I spoke to my health visitor who said it is probably that he is just not ready to be toilet trained. She said this is not unusual for boys and try again when he is 2 1/2. If he shows an interest in doing it before then I will encourage him though.

Boys and as matter all kids just catch on in their own time frame.
Are you setting them on the pot at scheduled times or using any systems

Boys are slower than girls to catch on (or be willing). My sons were each three years old and were trained within a week, never had an accident afterwards. You want the child (not you) to be trained, so relax and give it a try once in a while to see if he's interested yet. It's like reading - a readiness thing.

    Hi,
Studies have shown that boys potty train later than girls. Closer to age 3. I would just sit him on the potty as often as you can. I started sitting my son on the potty at 18 months and reading two or three books. We'd do this after dinner before bath. Now he's 2 and 3 months but he's more comfortable on the potty and willing to try. The other thing I do is if you try you get a sticker, if you go pee pee you get 1 M&M and if you go poops you get two M&M's. Sounds silly but its just the motivation my little one needs. I put him on the potty first thing in the morning and first thing after his nap. So far so good. Good luck!
