Check with your mortgage company to see if they would offer you a loan modification. They also may have programs that you qualify for to temporarily reduce your payments for 3-6 months. In these times, it works best in your favor to communicate with the bank. The reality is that they want you to keep your home. They're not realtors it would be more of a burden to have to foreclose on your home. Through personal experience, I've found that they are willing to try to help you because that way they at least get something for the house as opposed to having it sit vacant.

How far behind are you now? Talk with them asap and see what financial assistance programs they have available to reduce or suspend your payments for a pre-determined amount of time.

    Hi, c_q_p_me2!

Yes, please do contact your mortgage company. A loan modification sounds like a great idea! The important thing though, is to be in contact with them in some way.

If you do go to an agency that will be willing to help you, they'll most likely want to know if you've spoken with your mortgage company and what happened as a result of that conversation.

Around where I live, we have an organization called Project Now. They help people to pay utility bills and to make mortgage payments, just to name a couple of things that they do.

Perhaps there might be a similar organization around where you live?

    Thanks!
