    Need guidance with physics
    Hello all I am not asking for the question to be answered just simply guided on what formula I need to use and in the right direction.

    The question being at an ice works a 3g piece of metal from a defective machine flies at 240 m/s into a block of ice at 0 degrees Celsius. If all the energy of the impact goes into heat and all the heat gernerated goes into melting ice, what mass of ice is melted?
    Additional information: the laten heat of fusion of water is 80 kcal/kg and 1 kcal = 4,186 J)

    So far I have determined that the end equation is going to be
    H=mL
    m= 3g
    L= 8 kcal/kg and 1 kcal = 4186

    Have I missed something as this does not seem right?

    You know v=240 m/s. m is 3g. You can calculate the kinetic energy. Make sure you watch your units. Usually, you'll want kinetic energy in ergs or Joules.

    Heat is measured in calories. Joules can be converted directly to calories

    Convert Joules to calories

    You are given the latent heat of fusion. Also, the ice is assumed to be at zero Celsius, so none of the heat goes into raising the temperature of the ice.
