I am 46 years old and I need to get a divorce. It's a long story, but my life is miserable. I am a housewife with a daughter in college and an adult son who is autistic and paranoid schizophrenic. I can't work because of my son's disabilities. I have tried day programs and other habilitive services, but he refuses to go. And if he decides to go he becomes violent and he has to leave. It's impossible for me to have a job, because I just can't call and say I can't come to work because of my son. My son receives SSI, but my husband is the payee. My husband and I used to have a joint account, but he opened a separate account without me, and he now puts all of his money there. He does not give me any money at all. I am miserable, and afraid that I am coming undone. Legal aid will not help me because he is not physically abusive, but I have no money. My husband knows that I am housebound because of our son, and he uses this to control me. He knows I am trapped because I can't work, and he does not give me any money. How can I get a divorce without any money?

I know what I am about to say will hurt you. But you have to be strong. You have not mentioned any problems you are havinging with you husband apart from money matters. You are more concerned with taking care of your son. I understand what you are doing demands a lot of courage and strength every day.
Why donot you try leaving your husband with your children for few days. Tell him you have had enough and want some time alone. Let him take care of the home and children, so that he realizes how important role you are playing in keeping this family together.
Am afraid this is the only suggession coming to my mind. I hope your worries will be gone soon.
