    Online Divorce.Is it legal?
    Hi,
I'm a first time poster here. I'm about to file for a divorce with my wife of 5 years. Has anyone ever tried that online divorce thing? They claim that you can process a cheap divorce online and it's even a less of a hassle. I included the link so you can check if they are legit. Any suggestions or ideas would really help because I'm not upper class.

    Thanks

What you are getting is a paralegal service that will do the forms for you.

I have never seen one that does anything but un-contested divorce. So you and your soon to be ex has to agree on everything, division of property, alimony, child support everything.

If you agree on everything, then yes you give them the facts, the fill out all of the paper work, specific for your state, and you and your ex sign it, and one or both file it at the court house.
You go to the hearings and that is it.

I still think you should use a local attorney, you both can hire and use the same one if you agree.

Be careful with these online services. Some are a scam, and some encourage you to misrepresent your residency (like in Nevada--a VERY popular place for this) to get a "quickie" divorce. If it sounds too good to be true, you know, it probably is. And don't forget, ALL states have a residency requirement for a divorce. So you aren't allowed to pick where you want to get divorced. You are suppose to file a case, at a minimum, where either you OR your spouse reside (you both do not have to live in the same state).
