I just quit smoking and.
I have not smoked for 2 weeks. And I am very proud of myself and enjoy my new fresh smelling home :D (I smoked in my house *blush* )
Me and my hsuband had an argument... not a bad or abusive one. We are still working through our 2 year marriage hump that sometimes gets tough. Its all settled now and everything is fine :D
But I just got so stressed that I forgot my pride and grabbed a ciggarette.
I expected the headache which I got. And the dizzyness. I only finished half the ciggarette because it was so bad lol.
My problem is ever since that ciggarette I have had HORRIBLE acid reflux. I already have acid reflux, but the last few hours have been HORRIBLE. I am constantly 'verping' (a burb that produces some stomach acid YUCK) and my throat is so sore because of the stomach acid.
Could I be simply having a reflux attack completely unrelated to the ciggarette... or is it all the cigarettes fault?
Don't worrie, either way, I am sticking to my QUIT plan!

Were you given meds to help you quit? Did you read side effects ?
Please check because there are some prescription drugs that will help that have some severe reactions if you don't adhere to the programme.

Cigarettes make acid reflux worse so I suppose it could be the cause. You really should take an antacid or something like Zantac OTC. Congrats on quitting smoking. I sometimes still have an urge for a smoke (after 3 yrs) but I remember how sick they made me when I first started as a young teen so I just don't do it. Glad to know it wouldn't be pleasant if I did!
Cold Turkey was the only thing that worked for me too. I tried everything from pills to patches and inhalers. Cold Turkey did it for me. I think us ex smokers should get the badge of recovering addict. I have never been addicted to anything but nicotine and in my head I think it must feel similar to a drug addict.
Again, congrats on quitting. Keep up the good work. Acid Reflux ~another reason not to smoke :)

Thanks both of you :D
I do take prilosec otc. It works wonders until that small week of a window at the end of the 'effective period' before you get a new pack that its really bad lol. Ill have to check my pack to see if I'm in that little void.

I quit smoking on Chantix though I have tried to do cold turkey on two occasions, but of no use. I have smoked for around 5 yrs with pack a day. Thanks to chantix and the support my family provided me. It really helped me to get over my nicotine addiction and I don’t feel craving anymore. There is one thing which I would like to share and which helped me a lot initially, try having a glass of water when you feel craving the most. It a tough road but it's worth so best luck to all those who want to give up smoking.

That's a great idea allsmi, I wish I could, but I have bipolar and I'm on moodstabalizing meds, and the doctor won't give me chantix.
But I'm happy to say, one month later, I still have not had another cigg.

Hello j:
Nicotine works it's way out of your system fairly rapidly. You were probably clean when you slipped a little. So, giving your body a shot of nicotine when it wasn't used to it, probably DID cause heart burn and other bad stuff. Nicotine is a POISON, after all. So, I'm not surprised that your body reacted negatively to it.

I have quit smoking for six months now and also have stomach acid issues. My opinion is it was the combo of what you used as an excuse to smoke and the smoke itself.
I have really ugly fights with my husband and when this happens I get severe stomach acid... its something that has gotten progressively worse over the years. I haven't smoked yet I still get the fits of stomach acid when we aren't "getting along"
Try to destress, breath and walk. That's what I'm trying! ;o)
