    Extra long periods
    I started my period when I was 11. It was always really heavy, painful, and irregular. About 4 years ago it got to were it was lasting half the month or more wit extreme pain. About 3 years ago I was pregnant (with complications) and had a C-section at the age of 20. After words I expected my period to be messed up for a few months, but hoped all the problems I was having before the pregnancy would be gone. It is now 3 years later the pain really doesn't happen anymore, but I am lucky to get 4 days a month off my period. Sometimes I will bleed straight for 4 or more months. After 3 years of non-stop bleeding and no doctor knowing what to do were do I go. I don't think my body can take years more of this. I am only 23 and worried I will have a life of this misery. Any experience or advice?

    Have you had the usual tests done in the gynecologist's office... blood work, abdominal and vaginal ultrasounds, colposcopy, biopsies, etc. Have you had any surgery done to explore more... such as a D & C?
    If so, was anything determined to be causing the frequent bleeding?

    Has anyone done a thyroid test on you?

    I was very young and had the same problem but it was undiagnosed for a long time.

    You should not have to live with this and I suggest you insist that your doctor send you to a specialist.

    Have you tried birth control? Often this is helpful for excessive bleeding.
    There are so many conditions that can cause this and your doctor should be trying everything to help you.If not,it is time to switch doctors.

    I have had 1,000 of dollars worth of test and been to tons of doctors. So much so I owe a lot of money I don't have. Tried pills, hormones, etc... Specialist too.

    When I was younger I did have a leap procedure done. But I don't think that would be a problem 8-9 years later.

    I would try an endocrinologist. They know how to look for hidden disease and what to look at.You might want to ask your primary if he would give you a referral.
    I am sorry but that is all I can suggest.
