    91 civic no fuel
Hello. I posted a couple of days ago about my civic not getting fuel (new filter, new relay, good spark, good click test) and I thought it was the fuel pump.. but.. I can hear the pump whirring with the key in the on position. If I can hear it does it mean the pump is working for sure? Could it be a clogged fuel line or the strainer? Also, do you have to drop the gas tank to get the pump out? Thanks.

By the way, I have never seen a Honda fuel pump go bad. I thought you may have been the first. At the first sign of fuel problems, many people just assume the fuel pump is bad and replace them. Normally, if you can hear them running, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), they are fine.

P.S. There's no need to open a new thread. In fact, it's best to keep the history of what has been done together in one place.

Problem solved! I am glad I didn't spend cash on too many potential problem parts.. the problem was that I was parked on a hill and the slope was just enough to make the fuel in the tank pool in the front of the tank and no fuel was getting to the pump itself! I had about a third of a tank of fuel and never let it get below 1/4 tank as recommeded, but the slope was just too steep!

At least I have a new filter in place and I'm glad I changed the main relay as the solder looked worse than those pictured in problem relays online... the civic purrs like kitten now!

Thanks to txgreasemonkey for the replys.. maybe this scenario should go onto the faq's list!
