    Collection Agnecy
I paid a bill 3 years ago. I have the bank confirmation.

I was contacted by my credit monitoring service that I was put in collections for this debt. It is now appearing on all 3 of the credit bureaus. I received notification from 2 credit cards that they have cut my limits in half last Thursday. I was turned down for a 3rd credit card.

I called the credit agency 3 times. Was told by all three people just to pay. I faxed them a letter of dispute and asked for validation. Have received nothing (it's been 2 weeks). Also disputed on line through my credit monitoring service.

What can I do? What is my recourse?

    Hello r:

Write the collection agency a letter. Include a copy of the proof you have. Tell them that if they don't reverse the dings on your credit report within 10 business days, you'll sue them.

Send your letter certified, return receipt requested. If they don't do as you demand, sue them.

Calling them does nothing. You have to submit your disputes in writing. You also have to give them about 30 days to correct the error.

Yes the time on the phone was just a waste, actually surprised you even got them on the phone. It has to be in writing. You dispute it with all three, send a certified letter to both the collection agency and the original lender including proof of payment of all the debt.

I would also send a letter to each of your current credit cards with the proof and explaining that this is a untrue report.
