Murray Riding Lawn mower won't start
I have a Murray riding lawn mower that is not starting. It is used, the first time I used it, it worked fine, second time it kept dying. Now I cannot get it started. I ran the battery down so I did charge it to full, it sounds like it wants to start but won't. I did notice under the seat there was a wire with a square plastic head with V shaped metal inside that was not connected to anything. Could this be the problem and if so what do I put it in to, can't find any connection that looks like it should go in to.

That is likely your seat safety switch which must be depressed for the engine to start. Sitting on the seat causes the switch to open and not short out the engine ignition. Right now your spark is being shorted to the block.

I had the same prob. And it was a bad coil and on my Murray you don't have to be sitting on the seat for it to run unless the mower deck is enguaged

Most every mower has several safety swicthes including a blade engagement switch. I work on mostly Sears tractors and some of them even have a kill switch if you put the mower in reverse with the blade engaged.

You should have another one attached to the bottom of the seat that has two rectangular holes they need to be pluged into each other obviously.

Or stick a piece to plastic between the two prongs.

Poster mentions the seat switch in post #1, since it is disconnected it is the likley cause of the issue.

You can also find the wire underneath the seat and wire the 2 together but your safety seat won't work
