    Voluntary Termination of Own Rights
    My child's father is telling me that he can voluntarily terminate his parental rights. He said he just has to pay what he owes, and that's it. Could it be that easy?:mad:

    Sure - it's that easy in crazy land.

    He does not have to exercise his rights, but that does not stop support. If that were the case, there would be no such thing as a deadbeat parent.

    He is full of it.

    Only a court can terminate parental rights. So if he thinks he can voluntarily terminate, he's wrong.

    And, if he thinks he can get out of paying support that way, he's in a dream world.

    He is merely lying to you so that you will not try and collect the child support most liekly.

    Now he does not have to visit, he does not have to call, he does not have to use his visitation, you can not force him to use his rights.

    You can force his obligations, which is child support.

    Yes, It depends on the state but YES a father can terminate his rights. An attorney can do it for around 2500.00. All he has to do is go to the local department of health and family serivces and explain he is not a fit father. His obligation is to be a father not your source of income.
