Utica boiler water glass tube leak
Hi, and thanks for your time. I've a Utica boiler that I replaced the water glass tube a couple of years ago, and it's been working fine. Now the darned thing leaks from the bottom of the tube, requiring me to refill the tube a few times a week. :( I've tried loosening and relocating the tube both up and down, but still no seal. Please, (since I’m not able to get around much, once or twice downstairs and I’ve had it for the day) assure me this might be like another $1.57 or so, to replace a gasket?? :o( at least I’m hoping that may be the problem “When in doubt………don’t”

If the replacement sight gauge tube was cut to the correct length, and isn't cracked/chipped at the end(s), the tube washers likely need replacing.

Whew! The glass cut could've used another 1/4" on the end, but after 2 cuts and breaks, the counter attendant felt confident with what he was sending me home with.
So, the rubber washers now sit on the very ends of the tube... it was a close call, and if it leaks again, believe me, I'll be bach.:(
I called the dealer before going to purchase the washers, and over the phone he tells me they're about $.15... GREAT! So, of course I get there, and a different teller sells them to me for about $.35 each. Go figure.
The brass washers were not included, but recommended. Now my $.30 cost me just over a $1.00. But between the service call, replacement washers, and a new glass viewing tube, I did save over $80.00. The entire job time including the washing of the glass tube, took less than an hour. YAY!:D:p
    Thanks for the reassurance KC!;)
