    Having Toilet problems
Okay my toilet will not flush properly. It is leaking so we are just going to replace the whole bathroom floor. So a friend of my husband's who does this kind of work came to do it for us. He said that the floor joist is separated by toilet pipe. Basically he said that who ever built the house cut the floor joist and stuck piping in the middle. I have no idea what this means. His friend said that we would have to move the main toilet pipe. I have no idea what any of this mean and neither does my husband. If you can't understand this I will ask him exactly what he said. I am so sorry for taking up your time but I just want my toilet to flush.

Deltalicious: This situations happens when framer frames bathroom floor w/o taking other trades in consideration. Then, plumber comes and does what he has to do - in your case, he cuts of the joists...

Your plumber is not giving you whole story. You need a framer to come over and re-frame your floor joists. Plumber is not necessary to do anything here...

One joist is cut anyway ( First drawing: red line ) so you will have to deal it with. It is a structural issue.

See my 2 drawings. Both are Top View. First shows your present situation, Second shows how it should be framed. No plumbing is cut or removed during this repair work.

In first drawing, red line indicates your old cut floor joist. In the second drawing, red line indicates new, re-framed, floor. In both drawings, black lines indicate existing framing + toilet inlet pipe. New headers have to be installed on Joist Hangers...

Hope my explanation helped... Let us know how you decided to proceed with the repair. Milo
