Foul odor in basement after using water anywhere in house
The problem started a few days ago when after taking a shower there was a horrible stench in the basement. We poured bleach and hot water down all the drains in the house. After using the washer, (in the basement) noticed the odor again and we can also now smell it in the bathroom. It smells like burning rotten food. Yesterday we had our catch basin rodded and cleaned and also the vent stacks on the roof rodded out. After taking a shower today the smell is back. None of our drains are clogged or running slow. The shower drain pipe runs into the toilet drain pipe in the basement and then goes to the sewer. Could there be a crack in the pipe or could the trap be full or broken? Please help. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I would do is check the floor drain traps to see if they hold liquid. Put a rod or stick all the way to the bottom of the floor drain. It should come back wit 2 inches of water on the end. Let me know what you find. Tom

Thanks for writing! Checked the water level in all drains, they all have 2 inches of water in them. Should we clean the trap under the shower and toilet? Should we check the pipes for cracks or would we see leakage?
    Any help is appreciated.
