Hot water foul odor

I have an old Rheem water heater that is producing hot water that smells like rotten eggs. I've learned that it needs a new anode; the only one that I can find is a magnesium rod that is too long. Can I cut the magnesium rod to the correct length with a hacksaw? Thanks for your help!
No water in upstairs bathroom/toilet

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have no cold water in my bathroom/toilet which is upstairs. All water stops when I turn the heating/hot water on? Downstais in the kitchen I have water but after a while it will stop as well. Do I need to bleed my radiators or what could be the problem Hollie68
