Water closet style toilet needs to be disconnected
My old-fashioned water-closet toilet (the kind with the tank high on the wall overhead and a pull-chain flush) needs to be disconnected so a new floor can be laid. The tile layer doesn't know how to move this type of toilet, even though it's a repro and not really old, and he is afraid he'll mess it up. Is there something special about these toilets that he would need to know? There are long copper pipes going up the wall from the bowl to the tank.

He is correct to be weary. He is also smart contractor because he could ruin a good job by screwing up here... Repro. Or not these toilets are famous for issues where the pipes join the toilet bowl. Getting this apart won't be hard, but getting back together could be an issue. This guy is a tile installer... he may be O.K. to remove the toilet, but hire a plumber to install it back correctly. Also, be clear that if the tile installer installs a new floor that raises the floor there may be a need to extend the closet flange (under toilet now). Just another reason to hire a professional plumber to finish the job properly! Let me know if you have more questions... MARK |

Plumber replaced a lead closet with a pvc closet and now the toilet doesn't line up the way it used to.. It is forward 2" and sideways about 1-1/2 " Plumber says that is the best he can do.. I don't believe that . Is there a way it can line up like before.
I noticed that my newly installed toilet seemed to be a little loose on the flange and used a wrench to snug it up. The nut on one side tightened fine but on the other side, the bolt pulled through a rusted flange (actually a metal collar). The problem came in trying to replace the metal flange....
