    Tiling a shower ceiling
How do I tile a shower ceiling with ceramic tiles without the tiles falling? Also do I tile the ceiling first or the walls?

    Thanks,

    Tom

Ceiling goes up first and if you apply a modified thinset with the correct notched trowel the tiles will not fall. As you place a tile on the ceiling you press firmly and give it a lilttle twist back and forth.

    Hi Tom,

I've never had a tile fall from the ceiling yet. What size tiles will you be using? What adhesive, what type of substrate? If the tiles are large or heavy, it may be smart to spread the adhesive to the backs of the tiles.

I don't think the ceiling should ever be tiled before the walls are mostly set and lines laid-out, that would be a risky thing to do. Let me explain. You first need to determine if the ceiling will be installed straight or on a diagonal. If on a diagonal it can be installed anytime before the last row of wall tiles are set since nothing will line up anyway. Doing the ceiling before the last row of wall tiles allows that last row to cover the cuts of the diagonal cuts.

If the ceiling tiles will line up with the wall tiles, again, I do all the walls with the exception of the last row. I then extend the grout lines up and to the ceiling, tile the ceiling, then finish the walls.
