I am 16 years old and I want to know if it is illegal for me to date a guy who is 21 years old. Can anyone hepl? I live in GA and I know part of the law. But can youplease help I am a little confused about it all. Thank you! :confused::confused:

It is not illegal to date, but it is illegal to have sexual relations. What do a 21 yo and a 16 yo have in common? What will your parents say to you dating? It is not a good idea to date someone so much older than you are.

In Georgia the age of consent is 18, so if you have sex during the next 2 years ( and yep a 21 year old is after sex I bet, esp if he is looking at a 16 year old)
But he can go to jail for up to 10 years, ( average is 5 in GA) and he will be a registered sex offender the rest of his life.
Ga is very tough on this

No place has laws about dating. But it would be illegal for him to have sex relations with you.

As noted a 31 yr old is in a different place socially than a 16 yr old. So itsa hard to imagine what a 21 yr old would see in a 16 yr old except sex.

I think the others are right, I think this boy will expect sex as an aspect of dating/relationship life... the only other otion in my head would be that he's a few sandwiches short of a picnic. No offense.

I agree with the others, and seeing as you have gotten an answer as for the dating and knowledge about the laws in GA and the consequences if the two of you do have sexual relations I'm just going to say something about the whole age difference.

I really don't see how a 21 year old guy can have in common with a 16 year old girl, you are in very different stages of life, you're still high school age and he is per definition an adult! If he is interested in you, then I would seriously be worried that it is about the sex... in any case you should tell him the laws, and the consequences for his life, both in the present and the future.

To be registered as a sex offender even if sex has been consensual will do damage to him in one way or another.

I think that you really need to reflect on the whole situation and ask yourself: why does he want to be with me?

(I'm not saying that you aren't lovable, lovily or an amazing person, because you prob are. ) But the likelihood that the two of you are at the same stage in life is prob not that big.

I just wanted to say that 21 year old guys go after 16 year old girls because they know that they're easier to pressure into sex. It's the truth. You're still very young at 16 and you think you're mature and you know what's good for you, but you don't. I'm just trying to give you some advice before you make the same mistake so many other girls made, including myself. Listen to what everyone is telling you because they are all right.
