J1 married to an american how to fill taxes?
Hi,
I was in United States on J1 visa(working visa). 4 months before my visa ended I got married to an american. How do I do my taxes? As resident(I applied for change of status but got no response yet, I am in a process, it is pending)? As non resident (Like I used to file)? Please help me...
Should I file my taxes with my husband or separatly? As nonresident J1 visa holder I used to get all federal tax back.

Nicery:
The J-1 is NOT a work visa; it's a visa for student, teachers, professors, researchers or trainees.
I would need to know a LOT more about your work and visa status, your husband's income level, how long you have been in the U.S. plus some other details before I could guide you on how to file.
Right now, I would be guessing at best.

Yes it is visa for students during one you are able to work. My program was 18 months long. I came to States in June 2007 and at the beginning of 2008 I filled my taxes and received my tax return. In August 2008 I got married and I am in immigration process at the moment all my applications are pending. My income for 2008 was $29.714,16 and federal tax $3.736,16. My husband makes about $45.000,00 a year he started his job sometime in march 2008, he also started a part time job at the end of 2008 ( made about $2100 and about $66 federal taxes)
Thank you for your help.
