No, you could not, for a very simple reason:

Nevada has NO state income tax.

Now, if you mean can you file as Married Filing Jointly on your FEDERAL return. Yes, sure, no problem.

Anyone who is married can file jointly even if they do not live together. Their respective physical location is irrelevent. That includes if one spouse lives and works in the U.S. and earns all the income, and the other spouse is located in a foreign country. They can STILL file jointly, though it CAN be a bit of a chore to mail the return to the other country for the foreign spouse's signature.

But it is VERY doable! I perform that function at least 20 times each tax season.

    Income Tax Return
Thanks for your quick response AtlantaTaxExpert.I am really appreciated!
    I have another question:

From what you told me,I take it we could do the federal tax return jointly here in Nevada, but my wife has to file her California income separately in Los Angeles(how does she go about doing that?)
I know this sounds stupid ,but we really have no idea about the correct process!
Please advise as what the proper procedures are, here in Nevada and in California?
    Thanks so much again!

First, if you have a follow-up question please don't start a new thread. Use the Answer This Question options. I've merged the two threads for you.

Second, Tax returns are either mailed to the state taxation department or filed electronically. If you wish to mail the return, just log onto the CA site to get an address. If you use a tax preparer or prep software, the electronic filing will know where to send it.

Go to a local tax professional in Nevada.

He/she WILL know how to file the California tax return because it is the neighboring state and thus the home state for most people who have moved to Nevada in the past few years.
