Signing parental rights over
Hi I'm from OH. I was wondering my son is 7 years old. His father has been in and out of his life every since he has been born. He only tries to contact him about once a year. He owes a lot in child support, which he doesn't even pay. Well my question is how would I go about getting him to sign his parental rights over.. The father has already agreed to do it.. I just need to know how would I go about setting it up?. Ive been married since 2005.. and my husband said that he would love to apdopt him. Can someone please help me.
Thanks,
ohiochickie:)

Go to the local family court and file a custody petition. In Philly it costs about 80 bucks. The judge will assign a hearing date, if everyone agrees on the issue of custody (legal, physical etc) then the judge will approve the arrangement. And child support will be ordered, don't surrender that in exchange for his agreeing to give custody. And he doesn't even have to agree, you have cusotdy now, you just need a legal document verifying the current arrangement. In short, it starts with a petition for custody which you can file yourself at the local family court.

Sorry but you will need an attorney, you already have custody, there will have to be adoption paper work written, and a agreement to sign over his rights to allow the adoption by an attorney

So I would have to get an attorney and they will take it from there.
Thanks

Yes, on something as hard and as important as an adoption and signing over the rights, I would not trust a fill in the blank type form,
